Abstract: Introduction to the use of free online wiki platforms for developing highly engaging collaborative projects for students in grades 7-12. Attendees will participate in an example wiki.

 

This workshop will:
 

  • Model strategies and best-practice research related to use of free wiki software for developing collaborative learning projects for students in grades 7-12.

  • Share successful past practice and demonstrate potential for using wikis to facilitate organization, communication, and instruction

  • Support attendees in creating their own wikis and understanding the necessary steps for designing a successful activity at various grade levels (7-12).

Steps for Success

 

  Open up Mozilla Firefox – you can use other browsers but this one works the best with Mac or PC interface
  Create an account at Peanut Butter Wiki http://pbwiki.com/
  • You do this by clicking the Create a Wiki button
  • You need an email address (but your students do not)
  • You will need a password--it helps if you remember this ; P
  • You need a name for your new wiki
 

Go to your email and verify the email address by opening and responding to the email sent to you by PBWiki

Start having fun! You cannot break the wiki!
